The weather is mild today, and there isn’t a cloud in the sky. Derrick Mallow and Franklin Stokes are in Mallow’s SUV on their way to the pavilion. The chief wants them to do more investigating, mainly because the chief also suspects that Frank Jenkins could have something to do with the murders of the three men.

The two police officers will have to be careful because Frank Jenkins is an evil man and has an atrocious temper.

Only a few cars are going in the same direction on “The Lake Front Road” as the police cruiser. The road ends at the pavilion and the docks. Spring is coming soon to the Lake Tisdale area because along the sides of the road, the flowers are beginning to bloom, and the leaves are growing again on the trees. Lake Tisdale is always a beautiful place in the springtime.

Franklin Stokes is behind the wheel this afternoon, whistling a tune that Mallow is unfamiliar with. Mallow looks at Franklin, smiles slightly, and then refocuses his attention on the road in front of him when his mobile rings.

“Hello!” Mallow greets the caller.

The caller is Angela Taylor, and today she sounds cheerful.

“Hello, Angela. How are you, and how is Martin?” Mallow asked while watching three bicyclists on the bicycle path to the lake.

“I am fine, Derrick. I just wanted to let y’all know that Martin is doing better. He is breathing on his own now, and he can talk a little. Sometimes more than he should because I can see that it hurts him to talk a lot,” Angela said while sniffling a little over the phone.

“I am glad to hear that, Angela. That is great news. I will pass it along to the others in the department. I am so glad he is getting better,” Mallow said as he looked at Franklin who was smiling and still whistling while nodding his head as he listened to the conversation between Mallow and Angela Taylor.

“Angela, please tell Martin…I’ll come to see him soon.”

“I will. Hopefully, he will be able to talk more when you come,” Angela said while putting her hand on Martin’s forehead.

“We have arrived at the pavilion…to do some…patrolling. I will talk to you…later, Angela,” Mallow said as Franklin spoke up and said, “Tell Martin to hurry and get his ass…well, because we are getting tired of double shifts.” Franklin said with a chuckle.

“I will, Franklin. Y’all be careful,” Angela said sincerely as she ended the call.
